Well Fat Rat one thing is for sure I was only trying to be helpful and that is my tendency on most forums. In this instance I was trying to be helpful towards yourself.
If I put a quote on my message, that is because I specifically want it to be known that I am responding to a specific point made by another member. That is my only purpose in doing so.
I am on several forums and this is the only one that I have ever seen this policy operated on. Imho it is over administration and I cannot see the point of it otherwise.

Griff  :thumb: it's nowt personal - it's been done to me, as well for example! It's also just an entirely harmless foible (like the americanism filter) and characteristic of the forum (least that's how I see it)

I get my own back by eg, wrongly omitting or including Capital Letters, and including poor apostrophisation which I know annoys' the admin boys' a lot lol

Griff,

Administration (and Moderation) is a thankless task, you can't please everybody, so I don't try  :thumb:

OK, but treating members like school kids is not the way to do it. I am 68 years of age and I strongly object to being treated like that, especially as this is the only forum doing it. Fair enough,  do your admin, but whenever I have my comments interfered with unreasonably I will continue to protest.

To be fair Griff, I have met many of the members and most of them (including me) are like school kids.

Honestly, I hope you stick around, it's a shame you can't see the benefit of the threads not being filled with pointless quotes. I will continue to remove them and if I think a member is being difficult I will remove them too.

Apart from just messing with my OCD, there are other reasons that quotes are bad, it pisses Google off too and affects the site rankings (but the main reason is it's just untidy).

Enjoy the site or spend more time on the other sites that do allow chaos, it's completely up to you and we all wish you well.  :thumb:

Got to agree with Fat Rat on this one, it gets me annoyed when people quote from the post above! Even from two or three above sometimes. If it's fairly recent then just use the name of the person you're replying to.
I have signed up to a lot of forums in the past & refuse to use those where a quote from the post above is used......no need!!!!

The quotes on forums are a nightmare.

Adventure rider is full of quotes.
Someone quotes a quote, that quotes a quote, that also quotes another quote that also quotes a quote. :dl_hyperhysteria:

That forum is mostly unreadable due to people not being able reply without hitting he quote button.
Granted the quote button is needed to refur back to a post that may be a few posts back.

As for the Americanism filter... I love what it does... so many mewbie posts get quite funny.
That bike racer bloke Martin, pegging your tents bloke ropes and toilet paper to wipe my Donkey.  lol

I had quite forgotten about new joinists and the filter. :lala:

Well FR if You consider an objection to unreasonable treatment on a forum "being difficult" then carry out your threat and get on with it.  :thumb: as You say yourself

Griff,

You are being a twat, stop it. I'm locking this now as I have better things to do.
