First service: 2 months or 600 miles?
« on: October 02, 2018, 12:22:01 »
As I never owned a brand new bike before and as I would like to keep the 3 years warranty in place, I would like to follow the recommendation of "authorised" Suzuki regular service. The bike is approaching 2 months and I have only done about 200 miles on it. The manual states that the first service should be done at 600 miles or 2 months, whichever comes first.
My question is should I book her in now or should I wait (maybe) another 2 months to hit 600 miles? I don't ride as much these days (especially as it gets colder and wetter).

Well we are not as lucky here in the UK even though this year was exceptional (much warmer and drier than usual). Is not too bad at the moment either, but I don't have much time to ride it and as I get older I only ride for pleasure.

I guess I will make an effort to put more miles on it next week and book it in for the service.

Personally I would just get out now and do one  or two long trips to get the 600 miles done and dusted. The first 600 are some of the most important. 200 miles is too early for an oil change and nothing is bedded in.

THE FIRST 150  MILES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT TO THE ENGINE .

I'd do the 600miles before the next service. Give your dealer a call and explain you don't ride that often and it's going to take you a while.

My personal thoughts are get out and get 600 miles on it PDQ. If not possible have the service done at 2 months to preserve warranty. When you are happy to start riding again, continue the running in process and change the oil at 600 miles to preserve the bike. If you fail to make the miles for the next service go by the time between services, again to preserve warranty. P

Ride the bike until the weather changes enough to put you off, then get it serviced.
don't be worying about the miles on the clock, the first service is important, in as much as it removes any particles of metal from the initial bedding in, which happen in the first couple of hundred miles.

Thank you everyone for the good advice  :ty:. I will call the dealer today and book her in 2 weeks from now and I will try to increase the mileage as much as I can in the meantime.
