Rear brake sticking - mot
« on: December 15, 2018, 21:04:33 »
My 2015 Glee is due it’s first mot this week. After the last ride I noticed my rear disc was quite warm as I disc locked the bike up, both fronts were cold.
I presume the Caliper is sticking a bit on its slide pins so plan to take it off and clean it up but can’t get the silicone grease, mentioned in how to posts, locally so had to order from online.
If it doesn’t arrive in time, Wednesday, for me to do it before should the bike still pass the mot if the brake still works OK?
Thanks.

Silicone grease is available from plumbers' merchants, Screwfix etc ---- it's safe around rubber, and aids sealing.

If your rear brake is binding/dragging it will fail the MOT so my advice to you would be try to fix it before hand .  :thumb:

Take it apart and service it, pins and try to clean the pistons without removing them, maybe a very fine coat of brake fluid on same, wipe off excess.
That will sort the mot if all else is well.
Easy to apply the crease after the mot, it's not a big job once it's all free.

You will probably find its the rear slider pin (the larger of the two , 14mm socket) causing issues.

Luckily had a friend ‘who knows’ manipulate my rear caliper for me and got it sorted. Bike passed with no faults so now can get it sorted properly in slow time. Was told should be checked periodically so agreed he will come back after new year and show me how to sort it all out properly. Good friends are worth their weight in gold.
