'Vario' touring screen - too low for me - help please

Hi everyone, I have recently bought a DL650 (2012) and during early rides, the screen appears a bit low for me, I'm 5'10" and have to 'duck down' about 4 inches to cut out wind noise. I have adjusted the screen as far as I can and it's on the upper set of mounts.

Any suggestions please (I have seen the 'Palmer' stand alone screen mount at about £58 that appears to do the job of raising it a bit.

It's often thought that the problem of wind buffeting with Vstroms (which has been going on for years) is caused by not having a tall enough screen. The near vertical screens on Vstroms  just creates an area of dead air behind it and a lot of turbulent air above and around the screen. Hence the awful buffeting if your lid is stuck in it. Changing the air flow over the screen is often a better solution as it improves the air flow and reduces the buffeting. One way of doing this is to tilt the screen backwards. You used to be able to buy an adjustable mount that did just this (but I can't remember the name of it, or whether it's still made for the latest Vstroms).  An alternative is to make up some packing pieces and possibly longer mounting bolts and fit these on the bottom mounts which tilts the screen back, if it can be done on your bike. I did this on my old Vee and it worked a treat. All I used was a couple of rubber tap washers and it was enough to alter the air flow sufficiently to eliminate the buffeting but still allowed useful air flow around my crash helmet. Worth a thought....

One thing to be aware of with a Madstad bracket on an L2 - you will also have to buy a new screen, which bumps the price. Screens made for the wee (2004 - 2011) will fit.

Really, Rusty? You mean if you put an L2 madstad on, then the older bike screens fit on?

The glee has the deep recessed holes in the screen, these don't line up with the screen mounts on the Madstad. It looks as if they half-designed the bracket for the glee, using a new base section to suit but marrying that to the original moving section, which is why wee/vee screens are needed.

A Givi Airflow is the way forward

I second the Givi Airflow, I'm 5'8" and get very little buffeting and wind noise even at high speed with screen at lowest setting....I can still see over the top.

Givi Airflow is the best add-on that you can mount on your L2-L6.
Reduces buffeting and noise quite effectively.
Hint: don't' mount it too high, you should still be able to see over the top.
Guideline: Mark a spot 10 meters before your bike on the road surface and try to see that spot when sitting normal on your bike without looking "through" the windscreen, but over it.

Right folks, this is what I did... the lower spacers on the screen were smaller than the upper ones, so I took them off, putting the larger ones (top ones) on the bottom, and also added (as suggested) a couple of tap washers, this seems to have made a difference to the buffering but not the wind noise, that I guess is from my helmet.
