Clutch microswitch
« on: February 18, 2018, 08:25:57 »
Team

The clutch microswitch on my 15 plate V Strom appears to be playing up.
Is this a WD40 fix or something more serious?

Thanks

Check the meeting of the lever and the switch. If that is proper, your best bet is to replace the switch.  It doesn’t help to list the registration as the bike may have been at a dealer for years. Is it an L4, L5...?
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

On my AL4 I had the same trouble, my local dealer had one on the shelf and it is a 5 min fix
when I removed the old part there is a orifice underneath the  you can just see the contacts through, it might be worth trying some contact cleaner in there, the switch isn't too expensive if it doesn't work

Had similar problem on GSX 1400 made a short wire with 2 terminals on to bypass it before my eBay replacement arrived in a couple of days

Short the wires together on a K7 or later DL650 and the bike will tend to die at idle. The ECU uses the switch position as part of the Emissions control loop.

Chaps

I added Suzuki hand guards a few months ago, & the clutch lever is wobblier than before. A possible cause?
