Spoked wheels Vstrom xt
« on: November 10, 2017, 23:30:16 »
Just wondered if anyone with the new xt stroms has any info on how the new spoked wheels are holding up? I suppose the salted roads this winter will be the real tester.

well I hope there better than the ones on the yamaha super tenere , they are terrible & even if you try your best they still rot as they are  "not stainless steel or chrome" ..next time you see a 1200 super tenere look at the spokes on it ..

They look like a right pain to clean. Was in dealers last week looking at the new 650's. Sure the xt looks the part but too much time involved in cleaning the wheels right. I just spray gt85 on my cast wheels and wipe, easy.  The cast wheels are also strong,  I ran over a builders ladder a few weeks ago at 30 mph and both wheels were fine!

The XT wheel rims an spokes appear to be the same as those used on the Super10.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

It's beyond me why anyone would choose wire spoked wheels on a road bike over one piece cast items. Let's face it, the offroad capability of V-Stroms is negligible at best. I wouldn't go anywhere on my V-Strom that I wouldn't go on my FJR 1300. Prior to the V-Strom I stupidly bought a new T120 Triumph. It only came with spoked wheels and they were my biggest misgiving. After weeks the spokes were corroding and after getting nowhere with Triumph I got shot of the bike. I have a 40 year old Suzuki GT500 with no corrosion but have no idea how modern Suzuki spoked wheels will last but why pay more to find out?

I`ve got to admit I hate the spoked wheels on my R1200GS Adventure - a real PITA to clean !

The spokes are difficult (well, virtually impossible) to clean, but the spoked wheels look better than the cast wheels on the beakless Vstrom..... :lala:

The current cast wheels look old fashioned, it might help if Suzuki tried something more modern looking, perhaps they could copy the NC750X....?... :)
