If you have a non ABS bike, the dealer mode coupler is under the seat inside the left cover. Look for a white/red wire and a black/white wire. Those are the ones that need to be connected.

Had a more indepth look and checked out DR VStrom on you tube, found the socket, mines an ABS bike, sockets on the right hand side at the back of the tank shorted it out and got the C40 code, that's a start point, Dr VStrom gives a number of possible faults one being ISC valve circuit open or short circuited to ground, time to speak to my leckie mate!

Here's the connector for the 2007 ABS model from http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html

Make sure the vacuum hose is connected and not kinked or otherwise obstructed. It could be the ISC valve preset needs to be reset.

1) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2) Remove the seat.
3) Put the bike in dealer mode.
4) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
5) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
6) Then, wait more than 5 seconds.
The ISC valve automatically is set at the PRE-SET position.
7) Take the bike out of dealer mode.

Hi blokes and thanks grey wolf, bike reset , but then came on again with the same after a few miles. I'll have to try a get to the valve and get it checked out. Tried to  find a new Isc valve but having problems sourcing one in the uk, any thoughts?

Double check the wiring and connections. Also make sure the vacuum hose is in place and in good condition. Such a problem is usually with the hose or wiring as the valve itself is rarely the problem.

I'd like to post a new post about my DL650 not starting today, But I'm blowed if I can work it out !
The bike was warm and when I tried to start it, it would turn over but not start.
There was a red flashing light on the central dash.
I pressed a few buttons and turned the bike on and off at the ignition switch, checked the fuel level....and it started at the next press of the starter button.
Are there any connections to check for connectivity ?.....Bob Mc
I have a 2009 DL650.
