Recommended accessories
« on: September 01, 2017, 19:38:41 »
After many road tests of bikes that would suit the wife and I that would be more comfortable than my Moto Guzzi V7 we tried the 2017 DL650 demonstrator at A&D in Denbigh yesterday. We will be buying one for 2018 travels. Keeping the Guzzi too though because I am too attached to it. Looking for advice from you chaps about what are the most useful accessories to order? I am inclined to go for the standard model as opposed to the XT (unlikely to venture off the road much) and go for a centre stand, panniers and heated grips, maybe with the hand guards too. Any other must haves?
Thanks in advance for your advice chaps.

I recently bought a V-Strom 1000 and it's got standard Suzuki panniers and a 50l Givi top box. I recently bought a Givi screen in an attempt to sort the horrendous turbulence I was experiencing. It has made a difference but is by no means brilliant. It would be nice to have factory fitted heated grips but it hasn't got them and I can live without them. I recently bought a replacement seat though the original, in fairness wasn't that bad and is much more grippy than the Sargent. A radiator guard is always a wise purchase and I should really buy one  :).

My wife and me have done a few 500 mile plus days on the V-Strom and had a couple of weekends away on it and the panniers and top box were more than enough (we don't camp). If you need more load lugging capability a tank bag would be the obvious next step. Personally I hate them but I do use one on my FJR1300 for European trips.

I hope you enjoy your bike when you get it - buying the Suzuki is the best bike buying thing I've done in years

That's about right for starters.
I would ( I do) always fit a front mudguard extender as this will help keep muck off the engine and will cost about £16.
Consider engine bars. Never needed until the bike falls over and then saves a lot of damage a.k.a cash.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can. Nothing travels faster than the speed of time.
