DL1000 LED indicators on DL650 (AL5)
« on: August 23, 2017, 09:17:46 »
Hi,

I've had my 650 for a couple of months now and love it. However, the one thing that bugs me is the poor design/ output of the indicators.

Rather than the usual mod of adding foil or reflectors I wondered whether the genuine accessory LED indicators for the 1000 also fit the 650?

Has anyone done this and is the mount and connector identical?

Or has anyone tried LED bulbs in the 650 units?

Thanks

LEDs are probably not the best choice for more light as lamp replacements as they are very directional and the Glee and Veek lamps point to the sides rather than front and back. Both bikes seem to have the same stalk bases so an aftermarket unit that includes the stalk and points the LEDS in the proper direction though through a limited arc would be better than a lamp replacement. As to whether that is better than a painted or foil lined stock unit, I'm not so sure.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s
