OEM panniers

Should OEM panniers be uneven? First time I have them next to each other and noticed that left one is 20mm wider. Is it normal or do I have  2 halfs of different year sets? Can't tell if rack is asymmetric.
BTW whoever designed their shape needs shooting, packing anything into them is worse than drunken tetris.


P.S I'm sure I started it in V-strom specific, not ride outs/meets. I'm packing for trip so it actually fits here too ;)

Different sizes because of the exhaust up one side. I love panniers had hard luggage on most of my bikes over the years. I absolutely hate these ones.

They are the first ones that stick out way past the width of the handlebars. I measured them the other week and I think one side was about 5" and the other about 10" wider.

I can filter but not probably as good as some or most but I can get through. Just been through France, Germany and Austria and miles upon miles of traffic jams and holdups. Absolute pain. I would not have been able to make continual progress if I had the panniers on. Had em on last year and sooo many near misses. Mates behind couldn't stop laughing. 

I just used back box and Lidl waterproof roll top bag which was fab and I recommend when they come up again.

I just fitted a Delkevic exhaust and it looks like the exhaust side pannier rail could now be moved in at least 4 inches, this would still leave at least 1 inch clearance to allow for the heat from the exhaust as far as I can figure,have to ask a mate who is good at metalwork if this Givi rack could be modified,
It would narrow the bike a lot, I agree though,a decent size tank bag,seat bag and top box are great for short solo trips, I very rarely take a pillion anyway.
