White oil level glass
« on: April 05, 2017, 15:40:50 »
Advice please,
The window is white as shown in photos.
The filler isn't creamed up and there isn't any power drop or anything.
Had an oil change about 600 miles ago....

It kind of looks foamy not creamy?

I had the same issue with recently purchased bike, maybe not as bad as in your pictures but pretty close. I have changed the oil + filter and now is all cleared. When I have drained the old oil there was nothing white inside...just pure black. Have you changed the oil filter as well? I have a suspicion is because cold weather and creates condensation for short rides but not entirely sure. The previous owner was keeping it outside but now is nice and warm inside the garage.

Mine is living outside under a car port and just had short runs to work recently.
It had a full service, recall work and oil then first trip out was wet dragon rally, a run in the sun 2 weeks ago for maybe 120miles and just commuting 6 miles each way for the last week and this.

I think the engine is not getting hot enough to evaporate the condensation. My suggestion is to take it for a longer ride and see if the problem still persists.

The Glee has a more efficient oil cooler than the Wee so the oil may not get hot enough the boil off the condensation in cold weather with short trips.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

So essentially don't be a big cry baby and tell the wife I have to go out for the day?

This is common on most bikes that only do short journeys. Its condensation that is not being burnt off as the engine isn't getting hot enough for long enough.

Thanks chaps, my mechanic mate started laughing at me on the phone about it.... Always good for the confidence but it's nice to check as my usual position is run it till it blows up but it would be nice for that to be a while off!

Known as an Italian tune up. In the days before robo-plod it was a fairly good starting point when grovelling your way out of a ticket. Showing a good understanding of the right lingo (...Think it's fouling because the offside thrunging grommet is leaking past the flux capacitor connector...) gave him confidence you were safe a fraction the wrong side of the right number.  :old:

Glad you are sorted  :thumb:

Nowt to do with short trips I'm afraid.

Mine gets 27 miles twice a day, still happened.  Hasn't caused any issues though.  THink its just condensation inside.

Maybe it's more to do with temp difference and/or relative humidity. Mine goes milky every winter, mostly short runs but longer runs as well. It's not like I ride more in the summer as my monthly mileage is pretty constant. Seems to clear when the weather gets warmer. Makes checking the oil level tricky but fortunately mine doesn't seem to use any.

Any members who live in warmer and drier climates do you have same issue?
