DL650 K5 - Indicator / Electrical Issues
« on: March 28, 2017, 08:17:55 »
Morning all,

This time last year shortly after picking up my 650K5 all the indicators stopped working

After investigation I found that the handle bar switch was at fault, it was replaced and all was fine

However this morning the same thing has happened again, all other electrical parts inc head lights work but the indicator and hazard switch are one responsive

Has anyone else had this problem ? is it a known thing for the early models ?

Colin

Main culprit is the actual block connector behind the radiator, The pins in the block connector corrode and wear out over time and the solution is to give them a clean.

Colin, so far I haven't had any electrical issues wrt the indicators on either Wee that I own. On your K5 Wee, do the indicator lights activate once the hazard switch is switched on?

The hazard switch does not work as well as the indi switch

I've been doing the Google and the connector block does seam to be the main subject

I will have a look tonight at the block and see what its like

I do remember how much of a pain it was to change the switch last year, so my evening is now one free haha

Have you checked to see if the indicator relay is operating? Perhaps a fuse or something simple. Make yourself a test lamp using a bulb, if you do not have access to a multi meter.
From the home page (http://www.v-strom.co.uk/), go to the downloads section and have a look at the wiring diagram for the K4 (Same as K5). There are 2 connectors (located on the left hand side of the diagram) that could be suspect. One of the connectors connects the lamps and the other the switches. The bigger of the two is inside the tank cowl, on the left hand side and the other is on the right hand side above the radiator and not so easy to get to..
