What do you suggest I buy to protect the oil filter and oil cooler from damage by stones and other road debrie on my 2016 V Strom 1000?

I have Suzuki lower cowling. It is enough for me as I only ride on paved roads. If you ride offroad you'd need something more serious.

I'm sure I saw some posts here showing a Cymarc Rad cover for the beaky 1000.

The Suzuki plastic sump guard works OK but is a bit expensive at £150 for two bits off plastic!  If you're going to green lane you'll need better. Givi do a nice aluminium guard with good oil filter coverage for the same money as the Suzuki one. Also sump  guards from sw motech, happy trails, touratech etc for more money but better coverage and stronger if off roading.

Thanks for all your advice, I need to decide whether to go for the aluminium skid plate or the plastic bowling. Any thoughts on which is best?

I've got the touratech aluminium one on 2016 Veek bit pricey but we'll worth it. As for plastic or alloy depends on what you're going to use the bike for.

I made my own. Has a bit of a snow-plough look about it, but it keeps the rough stuff off of the front of the engine

Witches 70, is the plastic adventure one easy to fit? How do you fit it?

Hi Graham B , I'm not going to lie to you and say I fitted it my self as I didn't , it was fitted for me by the bike shop when I bought the bike , but looking at it I would say no it doesn't look very difficult at all . But I must say I'm very pleased with it and it does its job extremely well .

I really would go for the aluminium one. If I had a plastic one fitted my bike would have been written off on a back road in Spain last year. What I thought was a small depression in the road turned out to be a bloody huge hole. Once we had recovered and I checked the bike over I found a massive dent in the skid plate.
