Helmet cleaning ( fnarr, fnarr. )
« on: March 19, 2017, 14:16:58 »
When trawling the net for advice on cleaning the outside of a helmet shell for the purposes of attaching a self-adhesive camera mount, you get quite a few different dos and donts. Rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, detergent, water. Even nail varnish remover. In terms of what's available in England, what have you used that will:
a) Definitely not attack the shell.
ii) Not interfere with the sticky pad's glue.
3) Not contravene the usually vague advice given by Shoei, 3M, etc.

Baby wipes.

Then a 40 grit grinding disc.

You're welcome, always happy to help. :thumb:
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

You always try autoglym tar remover. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-and-exterior/autoglym-intensive-tar-remover/prod_749.html

With a bit of luck AndyM will be along with his annual helmet rant.

washing up liquid and warm water should be enough.
I have attached these things a number of times and never had any trouble with them coming off. Although maybe that is because I never apply any polish I only ever wipe it with a damp cloth.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

:ty:  I don't polish either, just warm water & washing-up liquid, so there'll be no silicone residue or anything slippery. Now to get the mount in the right spot......

Begs the question.. how dirty and shiny is your helmet.?
Er, though that's two questions.. or double entendres.
