Help Valuing my 2014
« on: November 23, 2016, 16:44:54 »
Hi People,
I need to sell my Vstrom 650 (2014) I've been wanting to go off road more and more and moved house and now think practically I'm going to need a small van and a dirt bike so will have to let my Vstrom go :(
Can you give me any tips as to where to advertise, or do you know someone? and mainly what kind of price should I be looking for. I've had it from new and done about 25000 miles as its been my only transport and I've toured Scotland and cornwall and Wales too. Its always started every single time in rain or shine. It has full luggage, a centre stand, Oxford heated grips, engine crash bars as in the pictures

any advice welcome

3700-3800 ish is a figure that springs to my mind, although it does have some welcome extras and I'm no expert...

Certainly try an ad on here, failing that I've had great success selling bikes via a Classified ad on ebay (30 days for £15) but be sure you get the classified ad section not the normal auction/buy it now section.
Gumtree is free but tends to attract cocks that will want a swap for a knackered old Bandit or 'will you tek a grand mate' types.

good call, a classified on ebay is something I hadn't thought of. I think over the weekend I'll clean her up and then hopefully get some daylight to take some decent photos. maybe make a classified ad and link it to here?

I put my 14 plate Glee (without luggage) on eBay but couldn't work out how to advertise as a 'classified' so ended up doing it as a buy it now for £4200 lasted 10 days not a sniff. So re advertised for £3999 and put it on here (still in the for sale). Polish bloke offered £3900 which I accepted. Next day he turned up in van paid cash and off to Poland!  It is difficult to guess the right price especially at this time of year.
Hope that helps

Find a van when advertising your bike, work out what you will offer. Then when you get an offer on your bike add that amount to the offer you make on the van. That way you can quantify the price you accept for the bike without being really p !!ed off. It's not nice selling a bike, but you can take the sting out of it.

Consider giving the drop frame a sand down and a respray clean the bike up a lot.

I think that is a bit overpriced. I was offered £4300 trade in for my 2016 2k miles last week, dealers are selling new pre reg bikes for £5500

Hello calum, was yours a similar spec? as to the luggage and centre stand heated grips and engine bars too? do you mean you got 4300 for trading it in for part ex? My thinking was you couldn't really get all those extras second hand for less than 500quid?

Mine has the touring screen, centre stand, heated grips, hand guards, usb power socket and the lower engine cover. I did not sell it for that price as I did not want to loose £2000 but three different dealers offered me between £4000 and £4300 against bikes costing £10000

For comparison if it helps - mine's a 2000 mile minter (mainly as a result of several house moves and keeping it in storage) but I was offered £4250 for my 2014 650 Adventure (plus Oxford heated grips and 12v socket) in part-ex against a new SV650 at the Suzuki test ride event at Hartside Cafe back in September by KC Superbikes (Carlisle). I very nearly took it but despite enjoying the SV it felt a bit "cheaper" than the Glee - I don't think I could really fall in love with it...

My bike has over £500 worth of extras. I said you could get a pre reg new bike which was probably registered when mine was, just before the free Sat Nav promotion so will have about the same warranty left as mine, plus I have done all the boring running in for you and paid £160 for the first service  :fix:
