Hi,
I have a K15 DL650 purchased new. It currently has around 7000 miles on it. The bike is very reliable and runs well. However I have noticed that for some reason or another it seems reluctant to rev above 6000 rpm. When the throttle is opened the engine will run up to 6000 rpm without an issue but seems to struggle to rev any higher. My old K6 SV 650S would easily spin up to 8000 without a fuss. I have fitted the bike with a K&N Air filter in the hope that this would help, but it has not.
When I mentioned this to my dealer (Haslemere Motorcycles in Borden) when the bike was serviced recently they told me that all was fine and that all I needed to do was hold the engine in a lower gear to get it to rev.
Has any one else come across this?

Same as TL Power said sounds like my mates he had a restricted ECU same thing takes bike to 47 BHP instead of 68 BHP.

Hi,
I am not aware that it has a restricted ECU, it should not have as I have a full UK licence and this was not mentioned when I purchased the bike. Other than a dyno check, how else will I know if the ECU has been restricted?

There is a different code printed on the restricted ECU. They are on here somewhere.
Post the code of yours and we can check.

As above, something's definately not right.
At 6k they are just nicely getting into their stride & pull strongly up to about 9k (then tail off a bit)
Did you buy it new/pre reg from a dealer or private.
If a dealer, pop back and they should sort it to stock speck foc

Hi,
I bought the bike new, and it was registered only after I signed the purchase agreement. When I mentioned the issue at the last service the dealer told me that "all was OK".
The code on the ECU is: 11J90; MGT 219; F8T54180; 4526

I'm assuming your issue is in all gears? If it helps I can hit hit 60mph in second gear if needed and it pulls like a train straight through the rev range. If yours can't and/or is struggling beyond 6,000 rpm then you need to go back to the dealer.

The full ECU part number appears to be 3292011J90. The 11J90 on yours suggests it is the standard one.

The usual problem in such a situation is a clogged high pressure fuel filter in the fuel pump on a bike having seen long use. Yours is a new bike though. Take it back. It should have much more power over 6000rpm. BTW, it is an L5, not a K15.

Hi,
Not sorted the issue yet as I am away on business. Once home in December I will ask to take a demo DL for a ride to compare and then will ask the dealership to take my bike for a ride. Previously I was told that "all was OK" but I am not convinced.
