Cruise control .....
« on: August 25, 2016, 20:37:30 »

Wondered if anyone has ever used one of these little gadgets..? £45 from amazon.
Off to meet family in the depths of Cornwall over the august bank holiday so I bought this well made tool to hold the throttle open. Once rode from Switzerland to home in 11 hours and ended up with a repetative strain injury in my right arm so hoping this helps as we will probably cover around 800 miles give or take.

Gave it a try out down my local motorway and seemed easy enough to use but the only downside is that it supposed to rest on the brake lever but my hand guard  gets in the way so decided to use that as it's resting point instead , seems to be happy there .
I used to have the cruise control that sat under your hand but found that it slipped which needed constant adjustment but still required your arm to be in the same position all the time . This upgrade allows you to completely rest your arm, although safety advises against removing your arm away from the grip.   :icon_wink: :icon_wink:

Let us know how you get on with it, might help them with arthritis in the hands.

That's a throttle lock. This is a cruise control.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

Indeed yes , I looked at something similar .  :thumb:
However, both achieve the same objective (cruising) but one is approx 10 times cheaper and alot easier to fit than the other .

I beg to differ. One keeps a set throttle opening. The other keeps a set speed. Don't you have any hills or wind shifts over there?

Yes we have hills , some that are windy ..!! , when I reach one I shall adjust accordingly, it's rather easy. This is going to come in handy and can be removed in 10 seconds . I'm not looking for "electronic" cruise control as it's far too expensive and complicated to fit in my opinion.

Thought I'd post a little review on this little gadget as I've not long had an 800mile trip around Cornwall and back .
I must say it was a real treat to use, it made my journey seem alot easier.  A 300 mile trip from my house to St Agnes seemed a breeze as I was able to frequently lock the throttle to rest my hand / arm , nearly 20mins on one occasion.
Although minor adjustments are needed every now and then it's no hassle at all as you all you need to do is use your fore finger and thumb to adjust while you hold the throttle .. simple .
My only small gripe is that it leaves a little less room across the whole grip .
Obviously this is not an answer to electronic cruise control but this will adequately rest the throttle hand over long journey's.  8/10

Kwackboy I did read on their website that they do a modification for the v strom handguard.
After speaking with you I may get one myself as I do a lot of trips for the Yorkshire ride outs  :thumb:

I had a simpler version on my GS for a few years, until plastic fatigue made it snap. You just prise open the end so it slides over the grip and away you go. It was simple to use
