Pillion foot pegs
« on: August 24, 2016, 21:11:05 »
I Have Just fitted a Givi pannier rack, and a pair of Kappa Guarda 33 L Panniers, my problem is that the rear pegs are only about 40mm in front of the box, so not enough space to get your heel on the peg, I have seen on youtube a bloke who made some "Plates" to replace the pegs, does anyone know of a lowering/ extension kit that will fit ?

SW Motech do a kit for £89 that gives 40mm adjustment in pretty much any direction. I have just returned a set as one side broke. It may have been an isolated problem but I decided to go for a refund as the actual pegs are quite small and have no rubber surface and the wife found them uncomfortable. I have come up with a potential cheap fix and will post pics if it gets the thumbs up from the wife!

Relieved to say that the wife much preferred the new footpeg locations as shown here. They are made using M8 threaded bar screwed into the top footrest hanger bolt location then a small washer that will fit inside the recess in the hanger is added then a few bar connectors were threaded onto it and when tightened up they do the job of the removed bolt. I put a nyloc nut on the very end to make sure nothing works loose. I then added the footrest rubbers which were are tight push fit, so sound as a pound. I have left the standard pegs in place as these can still be used for climbing on to the bike, although these new ones are fine to put full weight on as long as the foot is placed as near to the hanger as possible and the passenger isn't a fat biffa. This location raises and moves forward the pegs a fair bit but at no time were her feet touching the backs of my boots, however my wife only has size 3 feet. It is a wonder she can stand up at all in fact. It takes five minutes to remove them and replace the original bolts should you wish to do so. An added bonus is that the nearside one can act as a handle to lift the bike onto the main stand.
