Looks normal to me.
There should always be 2 or three threads showing on any nut and bolt combo.
Mine was the other way round- nut was on the LHS but it doesn't really matter which side its on.
I found it easier to get the axle in the right, get the caliper mount on, then mess with the wheel rather than mess with the caliper later.
I wouldn't bother taking it off to swap it around though.
