idiots guide to live feed
« on: June 16, 2016, 20:52:05 »
I have a voltometer to attach to the bike at the weekend (k7 dl000) and want to wire it to a switched live feed. I have only owned the bike for a few weeks so still finding my way around it. I know that the wiring loom goes from the front down the left hand side of the front side panel. Could anyone point out where to link the live wire to, to get a switched feed please? A picture would be amazing  :)
Thanks in advance

Hi ,
I suppose it depends where you want to place your voltmeter. ? That said , a good live feed is the brake light circuit . Obviously don't put it direct to the brake switch wires as you would have extra wires showing so best intercepted the wires earlier in the loom . Another good live feed is the ignition but again you would have to find the block connector for the ignition in order to hide the wires .
Myself I have used the brake switch circuit and intercepted the wires that are in the black block connector behind the radiator.

It will also depend on the load you want to attach to the circuit and if you are using a Relay.

There is a Heated Grips connector taped to the loom (left side before the loom disappears behind the Rad).

I am fitting a voltometer with two USB connectors, I have a GT so the stock heated grips are already connected to that connector. What colour wires would I be looking for to get a switched feed to the voltometer?
Cheers

In the end I feed it straight from the battery as it's got an on off switch at the back

If at all nervous about loom chopping, would a Bigpie fuse box fit the bill? Would give extra switched lives as well.
