Essential/ recommended accessories
« on: May 25, 2016, 09:29:49 »
Hi all, I have just put a deposit down for my first Vstrom!! I'm just looking for some advice re what accessories I need to be getting and if it worth getting Suzuki or after market? I don't have any experience of fitting extras myself but will to give it a go. Thinking a centre stand and heated grips and hand guards so far.

Any suggestions are more than welcome

Regards

Matt

Hi Matt

I recently got a 2012 650 VStrom and the first thingy I'll buy is a Givi Airflow as the standrad one is crap. IMO Suzuki should give you money back :-) or offer the bike without it.

Regards

Chris

If you want a centre stand it's worth looking at Cosmo Accessories on here for one. Cheaper than Suzuki and gets good reviews.

Heated grips,  I have Dr Bike ones (which I was told are Oxford ones rebranded) which cost £30. They are brilliant.

Also worth looking at Cymarc and Ravetech on here too for extra ideas (both get good reviews) and offer things like bash plates,  radiator covers etc.

Bigpie on here makes plug and play switched accessory connections so things like heated grips only come on with the ignition, and also headlight relays which can help protect the wiring.

Not an accessory but something I would do is get the tank and airbox housing off and cover all the connectors behind the radiator in ACF50 and then wrap them in old inner tube or something to keep the water out. It'll save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

Finally,  Fat Rat has a whole host of goodies in the shop section at the link at the top  :thumb:

The first thing I'd get is a centre stand followed by heated grips. Take a good long ride with the stock screen, it might be good for you. It all depends on your height, sitting/riding position etc.

I'd then look at top box and panniers.  Take a look at the for sale section, you will find lots of stuff. Also look at this post http://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=29669.msg294149#msg294149  You didn't say whether it's a wee or a glee that you bought.

My first choice would be a 'mudguard extender' for the front mudguard, to stop crap being flung up onto the engine and bits around that area! Similar to this

Hi,

An after market screen if you're tall. I've an MRA. Makes a worthwhile difference.

Go for the Fuse Box. You will Donkey things later and will be glad of the extra connection options.

Yep - I must learn to proof-read properly :)

So, go add a Fuse Box.
