£515 for 15K miles Service
« on: May 20, 2016, 09:44:05 »
There have been a couple of threads about the 7.5K miles service costs but I could not find anything for the 15000 miles one.

I just called my local Suzuki dealer and was quoted £515 for the 15K miles service

Now I know it is a valve check etc. He said it will take 6 hours to service it and I have to book it a couple of weeks in advance. Since I had just changed the oil and filter, he knocked off £40 so the total costs will be £475 (+vat I assume).

Good thing I have a service vouchers that came with the bike courtesy of Barry (Lifebiker) whom I bought the bike from so it is worth my while to do a 600 miles round trip to South Wales and enjoy the ride itself. So, anyone knows of a good dingy smelly low class doss house (read all these as low cost B&B) that I could stay the night in since I have to leave the bike overnight at Thunderroad MC? It will be sometime in July.

What a pee take, my local dealer is the other way, he told me not to bother having the valves checked at 15K as the likelihood of it needing doing is minimal (I have the older Vee). He knocked £40 off wow what a charitable person.

Just remember, you don't need to use Suzuki dealers to keep the warranty on your bike...

That's true but for new models that possibly have not been to other dealer/bike shops, it may be better to go with Suzuki authorised garages since they will have the workshop manuals and would've been trained on these bikes.

Just a thought.

Not sure where "the dark shadows of your mind" is but here in Dorset we have a small independent bike shop run by a Suzuki trained mechanic. He doesn't have the overheads of a main dealer and charges appropriately. I would have thought you could find one like that in your area (even if you have to have the pleasure of travelling a few miles extra).

Your in my part of the world profg aren't you?
Try Brian at moto tech near Crumlin,  Suzuki, triumph and yamaha trained and lots cheaper than gs motorcycles.
I'll do all the work on mine that I can and the things I can't mototech will do. I'm not paying dealer prices.
Funny thing is I had a few triumphs before and hated the 12000 miler as it was 400 quid, I thought the Suzuki would be much cheaper but the dealer said 580 for the 15k service!

Thanks, I know him. He is the one that advised me against R1200GS many years ago. Will give him a call. There's another chappie on the Ormeau Road also but I have pre paid service vouchers so I might as well use those and enjoy the ride also. Will see which way works cheaper.

I'm originally from Bridgend where Thunderroad have a shop. There is a Premier Inn next to J36 on the M4.
As I lived in Bridgend I never looked for a B&B there as I'd now just go stay at the Villa d'MamandDad but I'm sure there are some good ones in the Vale of Glamorgan (Cowbridge) area.
You could also give Thunderroad a call and see if they know of any?
If its the Cwmbran or Gloucester stores I've never been there but the Bridgend blokes are tidy and are my go to Honda dealer.

The bike was bought and serviced in Bridgend Thunderroad, but I might just take it to Thunderroad in Gloucester as I will be going to Worcs anyway later in July.

Thunderroad have a good reputation so I assume it will be the same standard of service wherever you go.

btw, I still owe you a pint and would've cleared my debt if I was going to Bridgend  :icon_wink:

Think my bike will get an upgrade just before that service is due ;)
