Alarm removal and fairing removal with givi crash bars

Not had the bike long when the alarm started playing up so put some time in last week and got it out (like defusing a bomb!  ). It was also the first time that I removed the fairings. The bike has givi crash bars which stopped me getting them right off. Is there a knack for getting them off without removing crash bars?

Better let insurance know the alarms gone....going to invest in other forms of security def not putting an alarm back in....gutting have to have no ride because of a dodgy alarm!

The side cowlings don't come very far away for removal. Most of the movement is front and back. http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7566.0.html

If there isn't enough room, maybe loosening the crash bar bolts rather than removing them will be enough.

Nice one, I'll try that wit the panels. Great link as well which links to replacement pop run rivets very handy as I popped three of them.

The fairings come off without any problem, just slightly more fiddly to line up the hex head for the allen key I can confirm this as I had them off last week to hard wire the GPS, change the plugs and air filter. In fact with just me I found the Givi bars hold the side panels loose but roughly in place whilst I removed the tank, bonus!

Insurance update - removal of alarm addition of thatcham approved disclock and chain and lock extra 11 pound.....plus 30 pound admin charge!!! Bennetts really suck!!!

 insurance increase a small price to pay compared to having been stranded and having to pay to have bike transported home and the an alarm specialist to take the bloody thing out...ditto would never have another one again!!!
