It depends what the intended use is.

This one under the seat (connected to a Bigpie Fusebox) for a Radio or to charge my Phone on the move.

This one at the front, connected directly to the Battery, I use this to connect to an Optimate.

I have mine in the dash surround - it's a bit daunting drilling a 30mm odd hole in a pristine panel....., fused & attached directly to the battery, that way you can power stuff without the ignition on (I also use the ciggy socket for the bike charger.
There is no current draw with the socket so it won't discharge the battery

Hi thank you mr rat and thank you phil, I will be using it to power the brilliant idea that hondaman ( phil) had on using a heated seat cover inside a bike jacket, but once fitted can be used for anything. :)

Did you use a 30mm wood bit to drill the hole, or just drill smaller holes around the circumference?

I used a wood bit to drill the large hole in black plastic, as Hman says.... It's a bit daunting but a steady hand and a sharp drill bit and it's very easy.

Worth investing in a Cone Drill for jobs like this.

I used a holesaw, a cone drill would do just as well :)
