H4 Dual Headlight Relay Kit
« on: November 30, 2015, 16:35:29 »
Could someone please tell me if this item on eBay would work on my Glee. I know Easternbeaver does a nice kit, but it isn't cheap and even more expensive when you add in import taxes.

It should do.

However, be careful, someone on here bought one recently that was doing something strange with hi-beam. Have a search and make sure you understand what happened there.

Just check it isn't the same as THIS

Variables to consider include the quality of the components but also do the two power leads have fuses included and do the earth leads both have ring terminals that reach the battery negative. If those items are not in the kit or any wiring is too short, you'll have to provide them. Sometimes, such kits are wired for cars and there will be a lot of excess wire.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

The two power leads don't have fuses but I guess they could be added. The EB kit does have a fuse but only one. I followed MartinW link, I would be nervous using a cheap Chinese made harness with odd coloured wiring. I was hoping that someone who knew what they were doing had already developed a plug and play item that wasn't located in Japan.

I did make up a few kits, but the take up wasn't great, really easy to make if you were so inclined.

I bought a kit from ebay that came in a week or so.
It was under a tenner delivered and has 2 fused feeds and 2 ring earths. It will need slight modification to fit neatly but has all the basics there.
Been busy so it got stuffed in a box for another day.

Hi bigpie - that's a shame I'd buy one.

Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to offer to make you one any time soon, a bit snowed under with work.

That's true, the whole thing looks quite simple, it's just a matter of gathering the components and crimping them together, however I do have two left hands when it comes to electrical stuff, plus I don't really have the tools required (crimper or soldering gun/iron) so I'd feel better if I could find someone to make the kit.

@bigpie - it really is a shame that you are not making them anymore, as I would also buy one for my Glee if I could find it cheaper than easternbeaver.

I'm actually making a couple up for people, one was posted at the beginning of the week and the other hopefully I'll be finishing this week.
PM me if you want one making up and I'll order some more parts.

Hondaman make sure you do not use ring earths onto the frame on a Vstrom, always attach onto the battery for earth. In case you didn't know.

Thanks bigpie but I was too impatient to wait and already bit the big Eastern Beaver bullet, happy with the product though. Justification to myself was that I'll be keeping the bike for a long time. Yep, heard that one before!

Talking of bullets, I'm going to be near you today in Wakefield, picking up a Royal Enfield. I'd have grabbed a brew with you somewhere local if it was going to take me 3 hours to get home, and it's going to be freezing.

Bigpipe  if you are still doing the relays I could do with one for my glee but with a bit longer
+ & - leads  and no inline fuse holder ,connecting straight into aux box.

Zed 25. I'm just finishing one off for rasebo, I'll order more parts and PM you when it is ready. £50 delivered, is that OK?
