Just had a new ecu!!!!
« on: May 16, 2016, 19:58:09 »
My 2014 vstrom 1000 had been cutting out abit during the winter. It happened when I shut off the throttle. I also noticed a flat spot between 4000rpm -6000rpm. Anyway I got hold of my local Suzuki dealer and told them and they got me a new ecu in. Its apparently a big problem on the new ones. Its made the word of difference. The fueling is so much better. So if you're having any fueling issues its worth getting in touch with your local dealer

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I had mine in for recall on loom and 7500 service but I firstly contacted Suzuki about ecu after gaining knowledge on this forum. They have done recall and service but ecu needs clearance from Japan and after a week of waiting for a reply from Japan I've just been and fetched bike back and will take back when it's been approved. Seems like some dealers are quicker at getting this ecu done.  Where have you noticed difference in performance?

The problem with the ECU was the bike cutting out at slow town riding or in low revs. It affected bikes that were built between 2014 and June or July of 2015 due to a faulty batch supplied by the ECU supplier. Bikes after that date are OK.

I was told that my bike was the first in the UK to have its ECU replaced. It was registered in January 2015.

Mines a march 2014 model which had the problem.

It cured a flat spot which makes it feel alot quicker but it is also more responsive and the fueling seems loads better.

The garage did tell me it would sort out 99% of your fueling issues.

I first mentioned this to my dealer about the flat spot when my bike was a month or so old.  He didn't think much to it and we discussed me having a shot on their demo bike but this never materialised.  I fitted a TRE to mine which helped matters but I recently had a call saying they needed my bike for 2 days to do a recall on it so am wondering if its to do with the ECU as wiring was mentioned.  I will ask him on Monday.  My main question would be do I still keep the X-TRE on even if they fit a new ECU?

I would keep the X-TRE, I did when my ecu was changed, set to 4th gear it will remove restrictions in the other gears, as 4th is the only gear with no restriction.

I have my X-TRE on 5th, as the 5th gear is also unrestricted and fueling is even better. I kept it after ECU upgrade.
By the way, ECU swap is not a recall. Dealers are analizing the bikes case by case.
More so, there is extensive thread about ECU swap already:
