« on: December 15, 2015, 18:27:29 »
So my headlight hi lo beam and flash gave up on my l2 650 this eve, before I start bumbling around the wiring loom are there any know issues, also looked on the wiring diagram there doesn't seem to be any light relays, is that right?

No light relays, so fitting them is a good thing. Start with the connector for the LH switchgear. There are several posts on here for this very issue. Have fun!

Do the lights work with any combination of beam selection? If they are dark regardless of high/low/flash selection, the most usual problem is the headlight cutout switch activated by the starter button. Otherwise, the switch or a connection in the large connector in the left side of the fairing or a smaller connector behind the radiator top shroud are the usual suspects and may be involved even if the lights are always off.

I was driving down an unlit strech of road a few years back. Went over a small bump and all the main beams went out, no high either.

I took the tank off cleaned all the connectors behind the rad and filled them with grease.
The problem I was having was the headlight interupt circuit had a connector on the rhs behind the rad.
that's the circuit that cuts the headlights when you hit the start button. If you break the circuit the lights go out.

Try sliptting the rhs switches and cleaning all the contacts and trace the wires down behind the rad. That cable when wiggled would turn the lights on and off when I had the issue.

This was for my K6 wee.

Found it, might be cos its late but I was looking for a switch elsewhere but now the bikes in bits can see the issue is terminals 1&2 in the switch hear block, have to say though it's a bit of a palava getting in to them

Just ordered the H4 dual headlight relay kit from Easternbeaver to head off potential connector/switch problems, not cheap though. There are wiring diagrams kicking around to diy

So does that remove all the handlebar switchgear, the prob here was corrosion on the connector block from the starter switch button

No.

It uses the switch gear as a low power feed to switch the relays and diverts the high power through the relays, rather than through the switchgear.

The stock wiring and connectors are still used but they only carry the load of the relays, a few milliwatts, instead of the up to 230W when the flash to pass switch is used with low beams on. That cuts down on heat and electrolytic corrosion a huge amount. It's still a good idea to use some ACF50 on electric to head off corrosion.
