Re. power restriction on Vees. Some people remove the secondary throttle butterflies to stop them closing slightly and restricting air flow at high r.p.m. which will give a few more b.h.p. if fuelling is adjusted to suit. In this state the bike should be producing b.h.p. in the mid 90s with a potential top speed of around a genuine 140-145mph. Probably the best low cost performance mode to Vees though is to add two teeth to the rear sprocket or take one off the gearbox. Makes the bike a whole lot sharper with no downsides although the speedo then over reads by about 6%.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS LADS , NEXT QUESTION -has any one done this pair valve eliminator thing, pardon my ignorance but is that just like an EGR valve ( looks like that on kit from ebay), is is it just the case of looping the cables and making sure the bypass is closed, does it really make a difference with after market cans, only thing is my exhaust isn't popping at all quite the opposite it rolls off lovely

There's quite a lot in the internet about this. It really is a different name for an EGR system and is there to make the exhaust gasses appear cleaner than they really are so I can't see how it can improve performance other than enabling more accurate fuel setting on a dyno with a gas analyser. Like a lot of extra sensors/ECU fiddling (VW, Audi, Porsche and Seat are experts at this) is designed to get engines through increasingly tight emissions regs.

Anybody wanting to do high speeds on a Vee or Wee would be advised to at least raise the fork tubes in the triple clamp 10-15mm. The plastic ramp under the headlights creates front end lift and lowering the angle of attack of the cowling through the air lessens that greatly.

Suzuki must have figured that out eventually as the Glee and Veek have no such ramp. The Glee has a longer shock to lower the angle of attack of the entire bike and the Veek's beak actually provides front end down force. I got thrown off a Wee by a tank slapper following closing the throttle at 119mph indicated so I'm very aware of how unstable the Wee/Vee aerodynamics can be at high speed.

don't think aero.d had anything to do with getting a tank slapper shuttin off at that speed fella soggy suspension I'd say, try the doctor dangle ( v rossi ) next time to transfer weight aft of her skipper

The only aerodynamic issue I've ever experienced on the Vee is when going fairly quick (100+) and cranked over, say on a motorway and come up behind an artic. The wake from it can make the bike shimmy a bit, but it quickly settles down as soon as the artic is passed. It's never been enough to give me any concerns and nothing like anything approaching a tank slapper.
The only bike I've ever had a true tank slapper on was a Ducati Pantah. Literally lock to lock (broke one of them), one switch on the right clip-on dented the tank, front wheel slightly buckled and one fork tube slightly bent.  I stayed on the bike but damaged the joint in my right wrist that took several weeks to heal. I had just fitted some new type Pirelli tyres the previous day and the front one was definitely the cause.  Pirelli sent me a new different set but wouldn't pay for the repairs.....

When I lowered the front of my 07 Wee, the bike immediately felt more stable in gusty winds especially. Others have reported the same conclusion. That's the opposite of what the geometry change alone should do. Aerodynamics on Wees and Vees is a big deal. A fork brace can make a difference too.

Note for EU members

The EU V-Stroms additionally are manipulated in 2nd & 3rd gears. This is not done by ignition retarding. It is done by slowing down the response speed of the secondary butterfly valves, ie. below 4000 rpm.

This manipulation takes a bit off of the sparkle on the engines response to fast throttle action. It is meant to make the engine feel running smoother in the lower rpm range. It is not quite clear if other regions do engage the same process.

For the EU V-Strom, a de-restrictor will elminate this "retarder" effect.

didn't think I was imagining it...can't believe the doubters could not feel the difference....with and without a TRE is night and day....and as I said previously above had the Vee's engine continue to be a dog I would have outed it pronto....may account for some of the many owner bikes who knows?

I cannot believe there are people riding these bikes without one or a remap as they are truly unresponsive and sluggish at low revs bordering on dangerous imo.

just wondering if there were any downside to removing the secondary butterfly valves its just I'm wondering is there any chance it would run lean with getting too much air or am I talking nonsence  also my second time asking- what about that exhaust recirc valve or pair valve thing is it worth taking out  , if so what happens to the wires are they looped or just cut or just leave the valve in an tie it off , I don't think its a huge job if so I'd probably just cut the hoses and plug them , instead of using blanking plates ,

Running at very high speed, probably over 120mph, without secondaries and no TRE will run very lean and may hole a piston.

Some on this forum have removed them and maybe you'll hear from them. If they are removed then at full throttle without the secondary butterflies restricting the air flow then it is likely to make the fuelling too weak. Whether this is likely to overheat the motor or hole a piston is open to debate and it is also unlikely that the standard ECU could alter the fuelling to accommodate this increased air flow. The risk of running too weak would further increase if straight through cans and freer flowing air filters are being used, hence the recommendation to use a Power Commander set up on a dyno to get the best from the motor and to minimise the chances of engine damage.

again thanks for feedback lads cause as ye know you could be searching the net listening to blokes who probably know more about tuning a banjo than tuning an engine and the closest thing to a spannar they've seen is in a mirror , I do have a TRE fitted and will in january be getting it teka tuned will definitely need it after the ammount of turkeys and pigs eaten over the last and next few days, I'll hardly ever be even close to 100mph I'm just looking for a little more grunt around the 40 - 80mph ish ( its just that thunderous sound and bellow from that exhaust is so f..king addictive) but I'm still left with the question of the egr or pair valve system - to be or not to be can I just loop the wires and plug the hoses????

I removed the PAIR system from my Navigator with no side effects other than a reduction in explosions on over run. I made up some blanking plates.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.
