Satnav Bracket
« on: April 20, 2015, 20:18:28 »
Finally got a satnav bracket sorted out for the bike. Not keen on handlebar mounts as I don't want to take my eye far off the road to look at a satnav. Above the clocks seems a much better place like I used to have on the old GS. The screen brackets are pretty substantial so my mate and I came up the following :-

It's a bit of 22mm handlebar welded to 2 pieces of 8mm round bar. The round bar has a bend in each piece and the end flattened for a hole to bolt onto the screen bracket. Was then powder coated black.

Top job. Gives me an idea....
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Does anyone sell this kind of mount?

Can you buy the mount that is fitted to the Desert edition?

The Desert mount is a generic RAM mount one, probably the cheaper option with lots of adjustability.

Ravetech mount arrived in the post today and I got straight on with fitting it. Stuck my new TomTom 400 on it and all looks good.

Unfortunately out on the road the satnav vibrates and jiggles about so much, not only is it hard to read it's also distracting :(

I don't really think it's a fault with the mount, it's more the fact it's stuck out on the RAM arm and the screen is mounted to springs as well.

Will have to work out a way of making it a bit more secure.

Sorry to hear your having vibration issues. Are you using a 2" or 3" link arm as the short 2" works best.

Hi, I'm using the shorted ram arm.

I don't think the problem is with your mount, it's the way the screen is mounted to the bike and the weight of the satnav.

I have decided the satnav will be better off mounted to the bars, I will use your mount for my camera instead :D
