Fuel meter showing the wrong level
« on: June 07, 2015, 09:46:47 »
Hello :)
I'm a bit of a newbie here and I have searched for a solution to my problem here but haven't found it. So sorry in advance if I ask about something there's already a thread for.... :)
My problem is this :
No matter how much fuel I put in my tank I can't get the top bar of the fuel meter to light up. I have not removed fuel pump or done anything else to it lately.
Thank you for any input and sorry if my English is a bit off :)
Regards, Arild :)

Your profile says you own DL1000, but not the year of the bike. You should update it so the other members could help you better.

DL1000 2014 red (sold)
DL650 2012 white (sold)

Arlid,

Don't worry about it. I have spent 10 years putting fuel in mine and half the time it only shows 4 bars again when I ride away, even if I "brim" it to the top.

Sometimes 4, sometimes 5. Worry more about how accurate it is at the bottom instead.
 :)

Also, head over to INTRODUCTIONS and say hello properly.

That's fairly common and the cause is a deterioration of the connection quality of the wiring inside the tank. The additional resistance causes a change in the reading. Some people have removed the fuel pump to access the connections and clean them up but most simply adjust their minds to the situation.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Hi! I get this too sometimes, sometimes 4 sometimes 5 bars. Usually once I have brimmed the tank it takes 2 or 3 miles then the tank shows 5 - drops to 4 very quickly though. As others have said...as long as the bottom is OK you should be fine. haha...
