Pillion on strom
« on: June 04, 2015, 23:08:24 »
Since having my A licence my youngest daughter has pestered me to take her on the back.Big responsibility when I'm still learning myself really. So 2weeks ago I still had my cbr 250 . It was not a good experience using my shoulder as a chin rest so to get a good view and bear hugging me,it was like fighting with a monkey!! However took her on v strom yesterday didn't feel as if anyone was with me , totally grounded .What a pleasure !!

Glad it went well Thruppy! My daughter keeps nagging me for a pillion trip but finding the proper kit (gloves, lid etc) for an 8 year old is proving difficult and expensive, especially at the rate she's growing! One day...

My Daughter (8 at the time) loved it and had all the kit.
 :)

Then suddenly decided that "someone from school might see me" and that was that.
 :bawl:

She's 18 now.

My missus was looking at a Riderz Belt, so I could take my 9 year old as pillion without her worrying. It looks good the both of you are harnessed together so falling asleep or lack of concentration is all good. But if you have an off do you then want a child strapped to your back ? Its called a back rider belt I can't link it,what's your thoughts?

I wouldn't want her strapped to me. I am a big lump and it would hurt enough as it is without me pushing her into the road too.

My Daughter held the Velcro adjustment straps on my jacket rather than the pillion rails. That way I knew she was still there and alternate pulls of the left-right adjusters meant "slow down" and pulling both together meant "stop".

After a three hour trip from Swindon to South Wales (to avoid all Motorways and Dual Carriageways) she opted for the express 50 minute M4 ride home though.

One of the things I look for when choosing a bike is pillion comfort. Many bikes don't seem to take pillions seriously. Ever tried riding pillion on a race replica? Has anyone on here got a   top box pillion support? If so do they help?

You could always use these. They're pillion 'love handles' or waist grips for the pillion passenger to hold onto

there's more and more stand alone backrests around now like the diavel strada has
, they bolt on to back plate instead of a box. I think you can do both. They can make them on this site to order I think as long as you are willing to pay for a special.

Exactly the same with our youngest. She loved it until she started to worry about being seen in her kit.

I think I saw something like this in a Anne Summers catalogue.

Madness, she missed loads of fun and couldn't go to the last George White open day as I went on the bike.

Tallpaul, ref to kitting out the kids. Try J&S I got my sons jacket an trousers from them. Good kit made by Frank Thomas with adjustable sleeves and trouser length  If memory serves me right I think for both it came to about £140 - £150
Keep it on the black stuff

It was mentioned to me that perhaps a Ducati would be a cool bike. Lucky Nike or Addidas don't make bikes I suppose

Thanks for replies folks.
Luckily my youngest 17 yr old daugter loves it ,so it's a good excuse to get the bike out.
Plus she is the same size as the wife so they can share the gear!!!
