Couldn't be without my centre stand!

I agree. I have both, but even just for parking, packing the luggage, cleaning, etc. that said, when loaded, it does sometimes touch the ground on twisties, which can cause a sphincter moment.

I'm not a mechanical person, but I fitted mine without too much bother.
I agree.I'm also not too technically minded but have fitted 3 of them on various bikes.

I was also hesitating and finally opted for a Cosmo Accessories centre stand (€99 + postage). I couldn't find a second hand one and Cosmo's are as good as any much more expensive ones. To me a centre stand is a much better option than the paddock one...and given that you can't travel with the paddock one  :neen:

How do you find the Cosmo stand for quality, fit, looks & in use?
I'm considering one.

The XT is no different from the regular model except for the wheels and beak. It will fit.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I could be wrong but I don't think you can have  a center stand with the bash plate that comes on the XT.

No. The stand fits well behind the skid plate. Just make sure the stand is for a 2012 or later model year. The Wee stand will fit the Glee, XT version or not, but the Wee stand doesn't have a stop for the retracted position.

......putting a heavy bike on a paddock stand safely is definitely a two man job.

Agreed but then the V-Strom is not very heavy:

that's good to know. May fit one at some point, certainly very handy especially when your messing about putting luggage on the bike. My only hesitation would be catching it offroad but I suspect that it would be fine if it mounts behind the bash plate. I have seen center stands modified to tuck up out the way and with the peg (bit that sticks out to push it down) cut off to avoid it catching.
