anyone help with my 'won't start' problem?
« on: April 06, 2015, 13:30:15 »
Yesterday I had the bike on the drive. I started it and rode it into the garage last night (no problem). Today – it won’t start. I've checked (and charged) the battery. Checked all the electrics – horn, lights etc - fine. Checked the fuses – fine. Checked the kill switch, side stand switch and clutch disengaged – all seems OK. Switch the ignition on – checks – OK, all readings OK (no malfunction codes) and hear the fuel pump. No response at all when I try to start the engine – no noise, nothing.

Anyone got any ideas what this problem might be? Thanks.

Mike

Hi Mike, Similar happened to me last year, Mine turned out to be the little electrical connection
Under the clutch lever that had come loose, it looked OK but was not fully connected.

I’m not saying this is your problem but it’s easy to check costs nothing and its one less
to cross off the list.
Edd.

Hi Mike, You've done the obvious, how did you check the side stand and kill switches?

When you are sorted go to introductions and say hello :)

The side stand and kill switch will show a CHEC on the display and prevent the fuel pump from running if they are a problem. All signs point the the clutch lever switch or the wires to it.

Thanks to everyone who responded regarding my problem. Yes, it was the pesky connector underneath the clutch lever. I took it out, put a wire link between the connector terminals ..and the bike started straight away! relieved to know what the problem is ..and relatively easy to fix - so I'll be back on the road this weekend. I think a blast around the Brecon Beacons will give the bike some life back...

Cheers, Mike

You haven't fixed it yet. 2007 and later 650s like to die at idle unless the switch is working, not bypassed.

I keep breaking clutch switches too... due to excessive wear on the clutch lever pivot letting it flop around too much and snap the switch.

My keyring has two keys that just about fit into the connector and provide a circuit to start the engine :haha:
