Just lost my third HID ballast in five years.
« on: October 30, 2014, 21:13:51 »
I'm giving up. As much as I like the brighter, whiter light, the lower wattage use and my headlights not changing brightness every second I'm running heated gear, it's too much. I just bought a pair of relays and took the old H4s out of the box I put them in when the Glee was new. I'm looking forward to long lasting lights that I can change without tools in a fraction of the time.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

This makes me nervous as I'm about to convert my bike and my brothers bike onto HIDs. What ballasts are you using? I'm supposed to collect the kits on Monday from xenonsonline.com . They give a two year warranty on their premium kits and as they are in my home town they are close enough to throw a (metaphorical) brick through their window if they fall short of expectation. Or should I just stick to my twin relay set-up?
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

I've seen ballasts fail early in cheap and expensive kits. The trouble with the warranty, at least in my case, is the entire kit has to be sent back unaltered.

Is it one make of ballasts Greywolf that has repeatedly failed, so you could buy another make, or is it a variety and so it seems the ballasts don't like being on your bike?

I need this on gsxr as the street light is brighter than my bike is.

I've had ballasts go bad from expensive Futurevision as well as cheap VVME kits on two different bikes. It seems to be the nature of the beast. If they were easy to replace, I wouldn't mind so much but it just takes too much time and effort.

Don't like Ballast on my bike,it always leads to divorce when it leans out of a corner instead of into it! Oh but I am beginning to see the light.
