piston used without exhaust
« on: October 24, 2014, 12:09:44 »
hello there, I really wanted a "pro" advice on this....
I came to my friend this night, he told me I can damage my pistons when riding without exhaust.
he talked about something like "segmentation" -sry I don't have the word in english-

what's your feeling about his folks ?

-sry I though my english was better haha-

It'll run like a bag of crap without the back pressure of a long enough section of exhaust tubing with a little restriction.
Engines can and are set up to run with short exhausts. Free flowing straight through exhausts give less restriction to a performance engine giving more power.
Think you mate is talking about a jumble of very different myths.

I have totally removed the cans and the attached pipes section on the bike. the only pipes left are the ones that goes from the cylinder to the T thing under the rear arm. (under the suspension)

and it runs ....pretty... loud.

well so I don't need to worry much ?

Just running with the cans removed won't in itself cause damage. What may do damage would be to run the bike very hard like this and the engine could well run too lean (if the ECU couldn't compensate enough) and it may well over heat and possibly burn the pistons and exhaust valves. You'd be more likely to damage your eardrums first though...

you are right, I'll put back the two exhaust

I feel the bike isn't running well on low rpms....
