Accesories and Upgrades
« on: September 26, 2014, 19:57:34 »
It all started out with a friend of mine who kept pestering me to go out on bike rides !
I have a 1968 Triumph T120 Bonneville which is OK for local but not for longer distances and motorways as I'm trying to keep her in top condition.
I decided to get a more modern bike for" days out" and started to look in dealers and E bay initially I just wanted a comfy ride for myself so was thinking of a Motorguzzi Griso its a big V twin cruiser style bike , however two problems soon became apparent
1. Looking on the forums they still have reliability problems few dealers and extortionate part prices.
2. My wife decided that she wanted to go on the back as well so it had to be roomy and comfortable.
I was going to make a trip to London to see a Honda CB 1300 sa but before I set off I phoned the dealer and it was gone. I kept looking on E bay and I noticed this Suzuki Vstrom DL1000 K7 GT no reserve so to cut a long story short and a trip to Eastleigh I'm the new owner .
Here in lies my problem after only a few rides I love the bike despite some vibration at 3000 revs its far more comfortable than my old CBR 1000 in fact very comfy and will be great for days out and touring.
The top box was missing so I sourced a new one off E bay  I also changed the oil and oil filter got the bike a new MOT and fitted a new exhaust clamp.
The scott oiler is not working so need to sort it out
Things I now would like to get
Top box adapter as the box is too far forward for a pillion
Gear position indicator
How about more power maybe a TRE
Radiator guard
Oil cooler guard
I get some buffeting at motorway speeds so maybe a taller screen
I might get the clutch basket done by Shearlike so resolve the vibration though not too bad at the moment
What about HID headlights or additional lights on the engine bars ??
After 10 years in the loft my full face helmet looked OK I went for a ride to Matlock Bath and it was like a snow storm the inner foam had started to degrade and it was like a permanent snow storm !! so new helmet needed.
I put my leather trousers on and after ten years they appear to have shrunk 2 sizes ! they still fit but blood supply to my lower body is now compromised !
My pristine Frank Thomas boots also started to fall apart after hibernation with all the outer leather finish peeling off ???  are they really leather ?
What about a Sat Nav ?
Bluetooth intercom for my helmet
Digi camera to record my trips
Replacement boots
Could do with some new winter gloves as well

PLEASE HELP

Where does it all end ?
Love the forum there are some great blokes on here
Long may it all continue and long may my bank balance cope

It's fun trying though! Search around the forum and you can find some real nuggets of info for fitting lights to your crash bars, ways to improve headlights etc. I bought some projector fog lights from halfords. Bigpie is in the process of making a batch of gear position indicators which I understand can have a switchable TRE function for less money than GIpro charge! It's all here for the finding! :)

Welcome, sounds like you're starting again kit-wise. Plenty of good kit about for reasonable prices.

You're close to me so I'm sure we'll meet at some point. Welcome.
