If you get bike re-mapped does that mean you will not need to adjust tps etc ?

Maybe, although I suspect it is fairly near to where it was in the first place! I will keep you imformed with progress.

Before the remap I had had my TPS adjusted slightly from 27.9 to 28.9 by the dealer. I never had the TPS re-adjusted prior to the remap but to be honest I'm not sure whether the remap would have done this as part of the new setup (but that's assuming the TPS is controlled/adjusted by the ECU).
My end result is a perfectly running bike that feels like a new bike as opposed to a new bike that ran like a dog.
Hilltop tuning worked for me. So I can only pass this on and hope it works for others in the same way.
I would upload a photo of the dyno readings but can't find how to do this on this forum.

This thread  makes disappointing reading. A new bike that doesn't run "nicely" at low speed. Months go by and the most likely cure is a re-map by a specialist.

The DL1000 I was loaned ran perfectly at all speeds so the problems some owners have had must be down to training issues for the factory and or local dealers.

Modern bikes may need a "smarter" spanner monkey.

My new Kawasaki SX has perfect fueling (2 power modes and 3 way TC) and it is not a problem that gets raised on the SX forum.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I'm really pleased for those of you who have had problems and now fixed them. I'm in the same boat as Brockett - the one I rode was great - no issues at all and I didn't notice the rev drop off either. I still want one. Of course, that could also be down to the fact that I'm not very good at noticing things!

No issues on the one I rode, I was looking for problems too, I was on a test ride.

I didn't see anything on a quick (45 minute) test ride either.

Now ready for my 600 mile service,  must say had one problem with the throttle on a mini roundabout with a bit of kangarooing but compared to the BMW 800 I had much better fueling over all and such a planted bike with plenty of power, even running in I can go for overtakes knowing I have bags full of reserve power and stopping potential.

Managed to wear the paint off the grab rail already though :( so something for others to take care with.

Buffeting, not happy best I could fix was screen at lowest and tilted fully back, then found by opening main visor on helmet and having sun visor down buffeting nearly all gone, visor down and buffeting back, so got a new helmet and that has fixed the buffeting, bit noisy still even with earplugs so going to try the mirrors next but very happy. Was even brilliant at triple digits..... head would start to fall off above 50mph before. My BMW would be uncomfortable at motorway speeds, the Veek is a joy.

Can see me having to be careful with my licence on  this bike, love it

Mines also been fine no hints of fuelling issues, going for first service tomorrow.  Not had any buffeting issues, used to suffer terribly on my 1150gsa.

hi all,
3,000 kms now completed after a return trip to NSW's New England tablelands this weekend with my wife on the perch.
Some observations:
she found it very comfortable with a stop every 2 hours or so. She is learning to travel light because panniers aren't immense although in conjunction with an expandable rear bag we can easily manage a 3 day weekend worth of gear.
It was windy most of the time and buffeting was apparent and varied from annoying to minimal, probably dependent of wind direction. Screen is now at it's lowest setting but I think I prefer none at all. As someone else remarked, the type of helmet and visor has a bearing on things - I find it much quieter with my open face helmet and sunglasses that I use for shorter trips than fully cocooned in my full face.
Temperature at 1000 metres (I.e (1/3 of the trip) was between 5C and 8C and this combined with the windchill factor slowed me to about 90-100 kph to make it bearable. The upside was the effect on fuel consumption.
Fuel consumption doesn't concern everyone but I like my bikes to be efficient dollar wise and I like a decent range too. Pleasing to report an overall 21.2 litres per 100kms (nearly 60 imperial or 50 U.S.mpg) with a total 190 kgs of us and our luggage on board. The home-coming fill took us from a town called Walcha to the centre of Sydney, or 432kms (or 268 miles) leaving 11 kms showing as remaining so I was pushing the odds a little. I stress that this was using easy acceleration, never over 110 kph and riding as smoothly as I can to make it pleasant for my pillion. Sure,I could use a lot more fuel if I wanted to stir it along but it was good to see what she'd achieve since range is all important over here with distances between towns often close to 100 kms as the population thins out.
Handling really is good when loaded. I just upped the rear preload 2 turns to cope with the extra load.
In short, my first choice would have been a KTM 1190 Adventure but the price (would have cost me 50% more than the Suzuki over here) and the engine heat from the rear exhaust (which would have just drained me in summertime) shaped my choice and I'm certainly happy to have this bigger bike to stable with my DR650.
BTW, no fueling issues in the slightest - I have had traction control off all its life so whether "on" would make a difference I don't know.
I think we've decided we'll keep the long trips to mid seasons though rather than winter-or learn to dress better for the cold. No fun in cold fingers and knees for hours on end!

Remap done at Hilltop. All fuelling issues resolved, no stutters, no farts, max power up from 80 bhp to 92, torque up from 56 ft/lb to 71. Will report on fuel consumption after a couple of tankfuls.

Am I a happy bunny? Oh yes!

I have the same issue as rct, the grab handle on the LHS wore the top finish through after a 220 mile ish 2 up trip.

Glad it isn't just me but disappointed for you... my fix a pair of cheap seatbelt protectors from home bargains, hides the wear and will prevent future issues, and really cheap and easy to replace when they get a bit grubby

I'd ask for a replacement under warranty then protect it as you see fit. You shouldn't spend 10k on a bike only to have the paint rub through this early.

Makes me mad  :angry-tappingfoot:

Just a quick update, pre-spain service just done at 5000 miles, and the throttle body balance checked while all the fairings were off, and found to be spot on spec, so not adjusted.

So, just to summarise, my bike had all the rough running, rev drop issues from new. The throttle position sensor was adjusted on Suzukis advice to 29 degrees, this solved the rev drop, but then it idled at 1800, unless a gear was selected and the clutch pulled in, when the revs dropped down to a normal 1100 idle. The Traction Control was stuck at 2 as well. Not happy, so TPS adjusted back to more or less where it was to start with, with rev drop returning, although idle now OK an TC adjustable again.

Bike was then dynoed and remapped, found to be extraordinarily lean up to 4000 revs, and both power and torque levels very erratic. After the remap, the power and torque plots were smoothed right out, and both torque and power went up to match. Engine now  FAR better, smoother, a complete contrast to how it had been.

However, engine response still a bit vague, so I checked throttle cable slack, and adjusted out as much as I dared at the adjuster. Another great improvement in controllability.  Bike still occasionally coughs and farts, usually after sitting for a while in Bristol traffic, but overall the bike is now where I am happy with it. I might yet tweak The cable a bit more, maybe adjust the chain a bit,  but otherwise I'm done fiddling and am happy.

Hope this helps!

Tim

The preset idle speed needs to be reset after a TPS adjustment. The following is for a Glee but the Veek may be the same.

1) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2) Remove the seat.
3) Put the bike in dealer mode.
4) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
5) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
6) Then, wait more than 5 seconds.
The ISC valve automatically is set at the PRE-SET position.
7) Take the bike out of dealer mode.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Hi Greywolf, thanks for that. I'll check with the dealers that this was done when they adjusted the TPS back and forth...
