mileage out of a full tank
« on: July 13, 2014, 19:59:42 »
just come back from our annual Wales meet and I thought I would try and get there with a full tank, from my house to the campsite at rhyader is 280 miles and I did it  mind you for the last 20 miles the petrol gauge was flashing, I tried to keep the revs at about 5000=70mph I used motorways and A roads all the way

Good work. Make sure your destination has a petrol station. ;)

Usually around 215 miles before I lose my nerve and fill up, all stop/start commuting.

I rode timidly for a tank, kept rev's <5k, for my normal 30/40/50mph commute, just made sure I pulled away smoothly using all the gears and carried momentum as much as possible ... over a week I averaged about 71.5mpg according to the dash, at ~220 miles I filled up when the last block started flashing, it took in about 15 litres, so had about 70 miles left to go before it ran dry...

As soon as I had filled up I rode like a hooligan and averaged ~50mpg for the next 100 miles.

245 miles, on second reserve with full luggage riding back from Scotland. I wasn't trying to conserve fuel, just riding normally.

wow that's bloody good going, best I have had is 179 miles before I filled up, could maybe have got a little more but to be honest I can't remember. I don't like running it to dry or near dry in case it sucks a bit of shit into the pipe

I've wrung 317 miles out of a Wee and 306 miles out of a Glee. I'd rather not run low on fuel though as it cools the fuel pump.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

That makes my 150-ish between stops sound not quite as bad as I know it is..... :shy:

Sounds good, but what's the exchange rate.....

At the last fill up I managed 262 miles before the warning symbol started flashing.  Calculations showed 70.8 mpg and that was over a range of riding conditions without m/way or d/carriageway. The bike doesn't get thrashed but equally it does get used and most importantly I'm delighted with it.

I'm a large lad too, currently topping 130kgs in my gear. I regularly get 180+ out of my Vee, seen as high as 230 once.....don't know how, must've all been downhill  lol

Usually get around 180 before filling with 19ltrs odds.

Current worst was about 135.....I was "making progress" with two mates on their R1 & Fireblade respectively. They were impressed and made comments like "Bloody hell, that thing catapults out of corners like a scalded cat" (that's why I'm on a big V-Twin lads...).

Get 180ish before filling up with about 19ltrs on my Vee, have had 220 out of it on a steady motorway ride through Spain.

On a k8 DL thou, average bout 180/190 from a filled to the brim tankful.

Although in Europe riding two up & full luggage at sensible speeds I've had a shade over 200 miles from a full tank, not bad I think considering.
