I told the supplier I wanted a refund, initially they tried offering me a tenner compensation, then they tried saying that the hole was by design (theirs) and therefore distance selling laws didn't apply
Only when I pointed them here and to AdventureBikers.net did they all of a sudden offer to collect the box at their cost. Some of the email exchanges may amuse you

Lissie.Let me see.
1. You could have not mutilated the item you sent to me by drilling a hole in it rendering it useless.
2. When challenged on this you could have not made matters worse by suggesting the hole was by design and therefore distance selling laws didn't apply
3. You could have not tried to fob me off with a tenner
4. You could have acted much quicker resolving the problem, not make me raise a case and make me force your hand in collecting the item
5. You could have saved me the time of posting your contact details and details of this case on numerous Motorbike Forums.
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
I am sorry you are not happy with the way this was handled when you have noted that there is a hole in the base of the box.
This holes purpose is to allow a bolt and nut to hold the base plate in place in transit. Without this, the base plate jumps and damages the lock rendering the box useless. Did you replace the bolt and nut after removing the base plate from the inside of the top box? This does fill the hole again, making the box water tight enough for riding.
I can see we have chosen to refund in full through the case which you opened for this item, and we did not ask for a return of the box in doing so.
I will now close this matter and we will not contact you again.
Kind Regards
LissieYou can't be serious?
1. All you need to do is wrap the mounting Plate in Bubble wrap, not mutilate the Top Box - Do you honestly think
ANY other supplier does this?
2. Yes you refunded me
AFTER you collected the Top Box from me, you haven't done me any favours.
