I saw how they went together before I removed them... because the road did a good job of removing them for me to take a look at them  :shy:

Same here, one of my first set fell out on a ride somewhere, so I found out how they work when the new ones got delivered.

You have to use a wire to fish the expander plug and its central nut out or take the other end off properly and use a flexible rod or compressed air to push it out.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Or take off the other side and stick the garden hose on the bar...flushed out the nut a treat....Just had to find it on my driveway afterwards.

I didn't have any flexible wire or piping to hand and the only compressed air I had was in the tyres!

Had to leave the ends off while it dried out though.

I'm going to give both of those ideas a go just waiting on the rain to stop, can I ask this on Greywolfs diagram Bolt #5 do I try to take that out first as its really jammed in, or does it all come out together.

#5 is an all metal part and shouldn't be hung up. The #8 rubber part and #9 nut inside are usually the only parts that stick inside the bar. If #5 is stuck, tapping it should free it up.

Can this post get displayed at the top of the page because I have just gone and done the same thing then had use an wire coat hanger as described to tease out the rubber bar ends. If only I knew then what I know now I could have saved myself 1/2 an hour. :angry-tappingfoot:
