Disc Lock Fall
« on: March 13, 2014, 09:59:50 »
Hi,
I've done it again, set off with the disc lock on and dropped it. This time a little different, I set off a little quicker that usual, still not rapid but enough to make a juddering noise.

Don't know if it is in my head, but the bike seems to have a bias towards the bars turning to the right, the lock was on the rhs.

What should I check for? The disc looks fine on a quick inspection, but due to my track day a week tomorrow, I want to give the bike a once over at the weekend anyway.

it could be worse. You could have been dumb enough to rip an Oxford ground anchor clean out of the garage floor with 3 inch of elderly concrete still attached. Now its buried in over 12" of new hardened concrete. Never even scratched the back wheel. :shy:

I did this on by BMW R1100S and destroyed it's carbon fibre mudguard. Cost £225 to replace. Have not done it since.....

Funny, I did the same thing... Did a carbon engine protector as well, its something you only do once when it costs that much to fix!

Cheaper to let the bike get nicked and pay the excess :)  :)

When mine fell from the paddock stand (again) it bent the bars, not by much but enough not to feel right when riding. Easy enough job to replace.

If you need another pair of eyes on the job give me a shout, only too happy to help if I can.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Hmm, a mate of mine locked up his YZF750 outside the Cathouse in Glasgow quite a few years ago (it was new then...) then decided to go to another club first as it was a bit quiet. Being a bit of a tit when there were girls around, he got on & gave it a handful.

After he picked the bike up to a chorus of laughs, he launched the lock into the Clyde.....

That keeps me from forgetting about mine for some reason.

No idea how to tell If I've bent the forks, they look OK on my quick inspection. If I need to take them off to inspect I guess I might as well change the fork oil, but didn't want to spend all weekend faffing.

Disc also looks OK, with no juddering under light braking.
Bike tracks straight if I let got of the bars.

Doubt the bars would have bent, although it has now go over on both side, so should be even, right?
The engine bars tae most of it, and the bar end bending takes the rest.

I'll see what I can do before intruding on your weekend, cheers for the offer though. Maybe  just need to ride it again.

If it runs straight when you let go of the bars the chassis components and running gear are fine, the bars might be slightly out though, if it feels odd to you but runs true it's probably down to how you connect with the bike, rather than the bike itself.

Thanks
I can't imagine how the slow motion trying not to drop it, dropping it, could cause that much damage. I'll just ride it a few more times, I must just be imagining it :D.

I have a disc lock reminder that has lost the ability to coil back up, so I need a new one.
