If you do change the oil you'll usually find that you can't see any white stuff in the oil. It sticks in nooks and crannies like the oil sight glass, the filler cap and the breather hoses where it can't do any harm, but where it's difficult to get rid of it or bake it out. If you want to, take off the oil breather hoses and the air box and clean the hoses and the breather sponge in the airbox well. The bulk of the white stuff is in these and it's an easy job once you have the tank off.

True. The metal parts usually get hot enough easily. The plastic and rubber parts, not so much.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
