I also use mine daily, when it was new it was getting 60+mpg.

Now its colder, its definitely dropped, averaging 57mpg.  Chain slack, oil getting used so thicker hence causing more friction, every little bit adds up.  But the main thing is the cold.  Even notice poorer mpg in the car (although more power as cooler air feeding the intercooler).

I've also found that using low engine revs, or revs over 6k uses more fuel.  Headwinds also won't help.

So basically, hold the revs, smooth on the throttle, and it might go up a bit.

I get just under 50mpg on my K7 wee. Probably my 6ft5 doesn't help the aerodynamics...

The book says plugs should be changed every 7,500 miles. are these iridium plugs? seems very soon for changing them if it is, which are the best plugs to fit? it gives a few options in the owners manual,
also it says replace the air filter at 11,000 miles or 3 years,
suppose these things if not done  on time could affect mpg significantly.

They are iridium plugs and are good for around 30,000 miles not 7,500,  but mine are due for having their gaps checked... there was an error in the service manual over plug type, I think the owner manual has the right number (or look on fowlers parts website).

I don't think my air filter needs changing as it's a K&N which I cleaned in July and has been running fine over summer, however if I'm checking plugs/valve clearances in a few weeks I'll be inspecting air filter too.

Yesterday coming back from Liverpool I spent a lot of time between 20-40mph and the mpgs were showing 68mpg at one point. Maybe it is speed/wind/alignment of the stars related??

That's it, the alignment of the stars caused a drop of 20mpg :lala:
the bloody air filter is well buried in these bikes from what I've read, thanks for that Suzuki.

problem solved!! :fix:

Just copped on that the display was showing US mpg   I know now what happened, I recently fitted an optimate charging lead to the battery, when the battery was disconnected temporarily the display must have defaulted to US mpg,
Glad I found the problem,it was really bugging me :violence-smack:

Hope you can find the problem, intermittent problems are the hardest to figure out, I got 62 mpg today on a 30 mile run, mixed riding through traffic and country roads, windy conditions etc so happy with that, I am relieved to have figured it out.
