Another home made GPS Bracket
« on: February 10, 2014, 19:27:05 »
All

I would love to take the credit for this work but anyone who knows me will see right through the story :)

I do however have a very good friend who is a little handy at these sorts of things. The best thing about this is that I live in York and the bloke who done this for me lives in St Helens so all of the work was done through measurements, packages in the post and long conversations

We started with a very basic design / template to ensure the shape works

And it did work :)

Following that we took a load of measurements and he used his 3D printer to create a template and check the fit etc

As you can see this fitted fine so away he went with his CNC machine and this was the result

You may remember me asking for the VStrom font in another post...well with a little help the bracket now had the logo on it

After a short while in his powder coating machine and a dash of silver paint, I'm sure you will agree the result was impressive

He then got a little excited and attached a 12v socket (which is now connected to the heated grip connector under the left side).

Now not only did he do all this work but he also drove across on Sunday morning to fit the 12v socket, a further 12v socket under the seat, a pair of relays in their own specially 3D printed housing and my mini PD Oiler.

Now for the bit that is missing from this thread.... My handy work

Whilst allowing the PD oiler to push oil through I left the ignition on and those that have fitted these will know how long it takes to get the oil through from bottle to chain. Well having left it long enough or too long,  I went out to discover I had allowed the battery to run flat  :violence-smack:  so now it is now on charge :)

Anyway.. I have not yet taken any pictures of all this gear on the bike but promise I will get some uploaded at the weekend :)

What do you think so far?

Looks brilliant Ridaz!  Out of curiousity how did you get the bracket part attached to the tube? looks like it enters a slot ..is it tacked on? have you put end-caps on?

He has no plans to make anymore and only made this as a favour to me.

The bar is solid and is bonded to the frame. He used this stuff to do it

Yes there are end caps fitted to the bar too.

there is one other that he made whilst making mine and it may be available but these are only designed to fit the Glee with the same screen as mine. No idea on the price though. PM me an offer and I will ask him on a first come first served basis. Holmsey has first dibs.

But what he has said is....
He will be happy to release the DFX files (template drawings) Free to this forum.

This bloke will prob cut the template for around £25 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Full-Model-En ... TQ:GB:1123 (he also has the dfx files).

You can buy your own bar and attach it using the same method as him http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130958110906? ... 1439.l2649

This will give you what you need but without the powder coating or the Vstrom logo engraved.
