Givi bashplate for Glee.
« on: March 02, 2014, 18:40:33 »
Has anyone had one of these? They look a bit flimsy in the pics, do they have enough in them to protect the bits it covers or am I looking at a more expensive SW Motech plate and bars set up? The Givi plate is well priced, I've no intention of grounding it, I just need it to protect from small rocks spat out of the front wheel.

I have a Givi Trekker sump guard. It 'looks' very similar to that one in the link, but couldn't really say for sure. However, it's pretty sturdy, and while I might not wish to jack the bike up on it I reckon it could take the punishment.

If you like I'll go measure thickness and take some pics....

If you're at the bike show on Sat you can see it in the flesh :)

That looks very similar the the bash plate I have. I'm very tempted to go out to the shed to have a look/see. I haven't actually seen my bike for over 4 months now and it'd give me a chance to see if the things still there

If it is the same plate then the lady at Saltire Suzuki was right in recommending it over Suzuki's plastic effort as it's a very sturdy bit of kit.

Thanks for the replies, a thickness measurement would be good Zim thanks. Yeah, the Suzuki cowl is for looks only, I'm taking it off and selling it, it was only to keep the road crap and water from blasting the engine, but I took the Glee off road in Wales with the lads on here and I kept hearing and feeling big stones clunking off the underside. I want to do it again and the Suzuki cowl is like a toy.

Locky, I want bars too, I've looked at the old Heed thread, when longman was in contact with them to get some forum discount. There didn't seem to be any result as far as ordering with a code though. Also, no idea if each item will fit the Glee?

OK it's 3mm aluminium with internal attachment bars and bolts to the Givi bars I have.

Sorry about poor pic quality - cold and dark out there ;)

The trekker one looks like the normal Givi one, but black, can't find it anywhere online though, just the standard silver one.

Good to see the welds on the units at the joins, Givis own pics just show them as butts, no weld.

I like it, it's quite cheap too, but I've heard the Givi bars are a bit weak and wouldn't do much in a drop, so maybe I'm looking at a Heed or SW Motech set. I just wanted some feedback on the Givi plate because it did look a little weak, thanks folks.

My SW Motech bars are very solid, can't go wrong with them if the Glee ones are similar.
