ABS......Can it be turned off???
« on: October 09, 2013, 16:46:53 »
First post.....be gentle.
As above.....can it be turned off?? I'm on a KTM 990 Adventure at the moment, and one of the first things I did to it was fit an overide switch. ABS on the dirt was deadly.
Apart from that, the new bike looks good. Preview day at Mission Motorcycles in Bletchley later in the month.
I MUST NOT TAKE MY CREDIT CARD!!

An ABS fuse can be removed or a switch can easily be added if an ABS off switch does not come with the stock bike. I'm sure the ABS setup will be similar to the 650's.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Just got to hope it's not like the systems fitted to some BMs which as far as the ECU is concerned the ABS has failed and it stops the bike being started and ridden. Happened to a friend of mine riding on his own in Romania.

Oops....sorry... perhaps this should be in the thread on BMW "reliability"?

Removing the fuse seems to be the cheaper option. :) Less convenient, admittedly.

Suzuki really should be fitting a cut off switch though, even if it's a dash option that defaults to on every time the bike is started.

So I guess there's no ordinary on/off switch??
That's a shame. don't these people who ride bikes ever test them on the dirt?? Surely the test riders should flag up that they can't stop on the dirt with the ABS turned on??

Most will never take them on the dirt so it matters little to them I'm afraid.

I'm not really afraid.

Don't forget the ABS -off trick...viewtopic.php?f=58&t=9393&p=76350&hilit=abs+trick#p76350

Might work with the new thou...Clumsy, but possibly worth knowing about.
