Left Hand Side Mirror vibrates
« on: July 29, 2013, 19:32:41 »
I've got the Aprilia mirrors (on extenders) on my K4 Strom and I much prefer them to the OEM version.

However .... I get a slight vibration on the LHS mirror, which makes the cars behind look very slightly blurred at 40mph and above. I couldn't read a number plate in the LHS mirror. No problem with the RHS mirror, where everything is sharply in focus.

Does anyone else see this problem? I have checked and rechecked all the mountings and everything seems to be the same on both the LHS and RHS. Both bar ends are present and correct. I wonder if I am just gripping the throttle side more tightly than the clutch side.

I find the same thing with my Sat Nav on the ram ball mount that's on the left side of the bars. But no issues when its not attached.
Got something extra mounted on that side?

Maybe the mirror glass is slightly loose in its mounting ?

I noticed this on my DR-Z, it's more prominent because it's a single. I just tweaked the mirror angle (vertical) and the vibrations are less.

Does the mirror have a small screw near the socket where the ball (the one on the mirror stalk) goes in? if so, just tighten it up a little bit. It will close back the socket joint again and will stop vibrating. Sockets do wear out over time since they are made of plastic and is attached to a metal ball..

Just the heated grip controller.

Thanks for all the suggestions, will look at those in the morning.

I found that the bolts I got with my mirror extenders were only just long enough for the left side when I had the stock heated grips controller mounted. I stripped some of the thread out of my mirror perch when putting it back once. Get a longer bolt as a preventative measure and it might also help with the vibration issue. That's assuming the bolts you got were also a bit short.
