Hard seat Remedy?
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:58:31 »
My new Glee really is doing all I wanted but the seat is so hard I can only manage an hour before I feel the need to get off it for a break.
I could do 200 miles on the V with no trouble.

Has anyone found a remedy?
Air Hawk maybe?
Corbin?
Or will the glee seat 'soften up' with use?

I endorse the pies method!

But also, I use an Airhawk... I would say it roughly doubles the time I can spend on the bike before I need a break.

Bum ache does set in eventually though. Would love to know if there is any way of completely eliminating bum ache. I would say my arse telling me to stop is the only thing that keeps me being able to do very very high mileage days. If it wasn't for that, I'd ride all day quite happily.

Seriously. My Glee seat is good for 350 miles of motorway or 400 miles of A road before my amply upholstered bottom begins to complain seriously. I think it's a really comfy seat.

I have ridden from my house to your place, Brockett, without real difficulty.

When I test rode a glee a little while back I hated the seat. Was like sitting on a badly shaped brick wall.
I was far more comfy on my bike with a seat that's had my ample arse on it for the last 40k miles.

I use a Airhawk and find it very good but still get pain in my arse and lower back after 2-3ish hours . The best remedy is to take a short break every 2 hours to give your body a rest . I've sat on a Glee and it did seem quite hard and firm compared to my Wee (Vee seat fitted) .

Sheepskin with a gel pad under it.

Don't fall for the touring bike wide/plush seat thing, they are designed to sell bikes in the show room. Out on the road fit, temperature control and the ability to change positions seems to be what makes life comfortable. I can do 400 mile stretches on well set up XT600 or Enfield seats yet have found £700 Corbins fitted to BMW's can be useless after an hour. Only throw money at it after you know what shape/texture/size works for you.
