What colour for Glee OEM crash bar?
« on: July 07, 2013, 10:16:28 »
Well I took my crash bar to the powdercoaters yesterday following my recent tumble, however despite their website saying they can do colour matching they tell me they can't

So the question is, do I go somewhere else to see if they can colour match, or do I settle for something like flat black? I do like the OEM colour as it matches the handlebars but is it worth the hassle and additional expense? They suggested silver as it wasn't to dissimilar but I'm not convinced though it may match the Trekker panniers...?

Has anyone changed the colour of their's?

Here's the OEM from Suzuki, my bike then my bike without guards.

don't be forced into doing something other than what you want as you'll regret it in the long run. Hunt around and get what YOU want. As for them saying that they do something and they don't, that's false advertising???

I'd be tempted to try a different colour to the stock paint. Gun metal perhaps or black.

I don't think the standard colour looks nice . I'd go for satin black . Have a look at some Glee pics that have been fitted with aftermarket crashbars , most of these will be satin black .

I also am not keen on the oem colour. Black for me , especially on your white glee I think would look good
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!

Whatever colour ..make sure you have some touch up paint for the next scratch ....personally I would just use some Hammerite and do them myself ..or touch up metal grey ...just like the hand guards ..a scuff is your " badge of use ",

I'm still undecided...

This page shows the colours they do: I went to this one as they only do parts for bikes and cars...

I would go for black. Goes with everything, easier to fix and available everywhere.

I'd also go for black, just easier to touch up in the future. Kurust comes out black too :)

Phoned them today and swapped from 'sparkly silver' (didn't realise it was sparkly as was dark in there) to satin black. Did think white but thought that'd be too much especially if the white was different to the panels. Was also worried too much white would make it that fast I'd melt the road - black should slow me down and save me some points...

Got my crashbars back from the powdercoater yesterday and fitted today. Went from this:

To this:

It's now a nice satin black which the powdercoater said would be a near perfect match to Hammerite should I need to repaint in future. Had a chat about colour matching too, he said he probably could have got the colour but due to the size of box powdercoat comes in it would've been about £300 just for the powder!!

Would recommend Triple S powdercoating in Bingley to anyone local, good work and quick turnaround.
