Wee Rear Subframe / Seat Rail
« on: July 24, 2013, 21:39:56 »
Hi All,

I have a feeling when riding the bike that I am putting more weight on my left arse.. As I had a fall 3 weeks ago, I suspect that the rear subframe might have bent a bit... Visually, I can see that the Preload Aduster Bracket on the Subframe is a bit bent... How do I check whether the subframe is bent? If so, do I need a new one or can I bend it back?? If I take the tension off the mounting bolts, and re-torque them back to spec, would that be sufficient?

Your help/opinion on this matter is much appreciated...

Cheers

Kris

Check that it's not just something as simple as a missing seat rubber :) While you have the seat off more of the subframe will be exposed, see if you can see anything obviously wrong. I doubt undoing and redoing bolts will make a difference, but there is no harm in trying. There's only 2 on each side, easy to see them.

Hi Juv, after todays ride as I parked up the bike, I did notice that the metal bit that comes with the disc lock which I keep under the seat was jutting up (on the right side).. I will have another go in a couple of days and check whether it is the fault. If not, I will take of the plastic and use a straight edge to see whether it is parallel. If it is not, then I might undo the bolt on the bottom right hand side of the subframe, use a lever to slightly bend it back to shape.. If that does not work I guess I will have to send it to a specialist... I have not been on a long enough ride to notice it since my current workplace is just 2.5 miles away..
